Having sold diagnostic medical instruments to physicians and hospitals for years, I know the value of cardiac monitoring. An ECG is the first test performed when you present yourself to a physician with chest pain. Holter monitors are used to evaluate the ECG for periods of 24 hours or more to identify arrhythmias during normal activities. Stress testing is performed in the doctor's office to evaluate cardiac activity during exercise. Critical care facilities use continuous ECG monitoring where well trained individuals are watching, ready to alert physicians of ECG changes that indicate life threatening conditions. All of these tests are expensive. All of these ECG monitoring devices are extremely expensive. I've had the luxury of immediate access to a variety of the latest, most technically advanced ECG monitoring equipment. When familiarizing myself with the operation of a new piece of equipment, I test myself, friends and family. Amazing things have happened. People with no symptoms have produced some most unusual ECG's. I suggest they take the ECG to their physician for evaluation, pointing out that even a computerized analysis has no validity until a physician verifies it. I tested a friend's father and according to his ECG, he appeared to have ischemia, oxygen starvation of the heart. His physician conducted more tests and discovered severely blocked coronary arteries. He had none of the characteristic symptoms, no pain at all. By-pass surgery was performed and a man who was well on the way to a heart attack had the problem corrected before damage to the heart muscle occurred. He entered surgery while still strong and recovered from the operation in record time. Fortunately, he avoided a cardiac handicap. My uncle happened to mention he would tire easily. Sometimes, just walking a short distance would exhaust him. We connected an ECG monitor and found pauses over six seconds long! He went to his doctor and it was confirmed that a pacemaker was needed. Since the relatively simple implantation of a pacemaker, he is back to normal, feeling great. A neighbor and good friend has a diagnosed cardiac condition. She was great in helping me make demonstration reports since she always displayed interesting arrhythmias. Copies of reports were provided for her cardiologist (this was done with his approval) and with this extensive monitoring, they optimized her medication to such a high degree as to practically eliminate her arrhythmias and considerably improve her quality of life. Another uncle of mine died recently due to sudden cardiac death. He had appeared healthy, never complained of any problem. It never occurred to me to ask him to let me test my equipment on him. There's no guarantee anything would have shown up, but I'll always wonder. We're often shocked when a well known personality, sports figure or actor suddenly dies due to heart disease. Statistics show about 500,000 Americans die annually due to sudden cardiac death. It's the ultimate understatement to say heart disease is a problem. In the testing I've done on friends and family, I've discovered so many questionable ECG's which were ultimately confirmed as pathological by physicians. This is why PC Heart Check was developed. To enable the average person to monitor their heart at their convenience. It is important to note that PC Heart Check is NOT intended to replace consultation with a physician if you are symptomatic or suspect cardiac problems. It's purpose is simply to provide easy, affordable monitoring, to assist in identifying potential problems or to closely follow existing problems which would be cost prohibitive using conventional monitoring. PC Heart Check was designed to interface your personal computer with a specialized amplifier capable of acquiring the ECG signal. You already own the bulk of the system. The amplifier is a small (3" x 4" x 1.5") battery powered, optically isolated device which connects to the test subject with three leads. These leads attach to the skin by either reusable silver suction cups or disposable electrodes. The tiny electrical signal originating in the heart and appearing at the surface of the skin is amplified and converted for use by the computer. No signal or voltage is transmitted towards the test subject. The cost is much less for early treatment than treatment following major damage. With early intervention, an individual's quality of life is preserved and their earning capacity is not destroyed. PC Heart Check can give you control, the ability to see the heart's electrical activity, valuable information. It answers many questions: Is something abnormal going on? Are the drugs doing what they should? Is the existing condition under control? For more information, contact: Vincette Bio-Tech Inc. 842 Dinwiddie Cv.
